artscapes

For me, art exists in an environment, of people, of urban or scenic surroundings, depending on the forces that are currently acting on it. My art moves from drawing to the symbolic – and back again. I want to irritate, question the familiar, playfully lead people astray and thus create unusual artistic spaces of experience.

In addition to drawing, my means of expression are audiovisual media, sound experiments and laser-cut objects. My working method ranges from intensive, almost meditative solo work and collaborations to participative projects.

The basis is my many years of intensive drawing work, the study of the anatomy of the human body. I am interested in analytical, rhythmic and abstract aspects of drawing, the image and the object. I also immerse myself in the meditative process and in the dance of lines and forms. My work is becoming more abstract without losing interest in the representational.

My forms and compositions are on the edge of the recognisable and legible. They concentrate on the moment in which a form, an object comes into focus, is brought to a formula and thus leads to an individual interpretation. This is where I explore the boundaries of semiotics and linguistics.

I also work with minimalist and temporary interventions. Symbolic objects interact with sculptures, buildings or objects in public spaces. They behave like insects that make their way as a matter of course. At the same time, they enter into a relationship with the existing objects and challenge new interpretations and perspectives. They appear briefly and unannounced and are documented photographically.

A sign is identified and interpreted as such from an individual and cultural location. Signs condense from fragments of perception and memory. They are landmarks, symbols of a place, or un-equal or un-true signs.
