memento mori – what remains?

My Statement

I interpret the cloister as a passage, as a shift in positions and states, just like life itself. Manipulated clockworks refuse to provide the orientation expected of them. Door knockers without doors communicate into the void and address the transience of sound. Against this backdrop, expressive figures perform a dance of life or death.

“Memento mori—remember death,” a thought that has resurfaced in modern society due to the pandemic: a society that has banished death from everyday life. For decades, the media has confronted us with global conflicts and, consequently, with death on distant continents. The military attack on Ukraine has brought this issue closer to us, both geographically and emotionally. We explore the concept of finitude in our artistic work: What remains?
